February 28th 2022
The EV6 all-electric crossover from Kia has been crowned the 2022 European Car of the Year.
The Renault Megane E-Tech and Kia's Korean relative, the Hyundai Ioniq 5, engaged in a close race that saw the EV6 emerge victorious, earning the coveted title of being the world's oldest car accolade.
This is the first time the esteemed prize has been received by a Korean automaker. Frank Janssen, the president of the Car of the Year jury, commented, "It's a pleasant surprise to see the Kia EV6 win this honor. Given how hard the team and the brand had worked on this car, it was about time they were recognized. The rate of advancement of Kia is very remarkable."
“It's a huge honor to have won the 2022 Car of the Year with the EV6, the first Kia to ever get this prestigious accolade”, said Jason Jeong, president of Kia Europe. “A truly revolutionary creation, the EV6 combines an extremely amazing real-world driving range, lightning-fast charging, a roomy, high-tech interior and an incredibly satisfying driving experience to make electric mobility enjoyable, practical, and accessible. An interesting glimpse of what's to come in our developing electrified lineup is the EV6" continued Jeong.
